Cost-of-illness model for venous thromboembolism

Correspondence to an article entitled "The economic burden of incident venous thromboembolism in the United States: A review of estimated attributable healthcare costs" by Grosse and colleagues. Agreed that the authors appropriately estimated incident VTE events and incident VTE costs, but felt that a comprehensive cost-of-illness model for VTE includes more than just incident VTE cases. Noted that many missing costs would increase financial estimates. Calls for more comprehensive cost models.
